Rogers and Lough Servicing the Marine Industry for Over 50 Years
1959 - Rogers and Lough was founded by Lance Lough and Brian Rogers.
Lance and Brian started the business commencing with a small amount of machinery and working for the first six months from under Lance’s house while maintaining their Full time employment at Baidleys.
“We’d make small propellers, propeller shafts … a smaller scale of what we’re doing now,” “The fishing industry was very good in the ‘60s and ‘70s and there were a lot of boats being built … a lot of fishing trawlers being built. And skinning, it was really taking off. A lot of small boats were being built and that enabled us to do small stuff under the house.” {Lance Lough}
After six months Lance and Brian saw the potential, gave up their paid jobs and bought a block of land at 82 Taylor Street where they built a small shed. Thus Rogers and Lough had found its home and still presides at this address today.
Lance build a 60foot wood displacement cruiser “The Beryl Linda” (proudly named after his Wife and daughter”.
The Beryl Linda is remembered by most locals and was certainly a site to see in its day moving by road
from Taylor street to it’s launching location.
Many also remember the Beryl Linda on charter for Expo in 1988 as it cruised up and down the Brisbane River.
1992 - Lance bought out Brian Rogers and has since retired.
The business is now proudly owned and operated by Alan Lough.
Alan is well respected within the marine industry and is now carrying on in his fathers footsteps and passing his years of knowledge and experience to his two sons, Justin and Jamie. Just as Alan Lough commenced his apprenticing straight out of high school, so too have both Alan’s sons. Alan’s cousin Michael Lough is also a part of the Rogers and Lough team today.
2009 - Rogers and Lough have now expanded with a second shed located at Shed 54 Barku Court Hemmant. The second shed compliments Taylor Street and offers a convenient location to deep mooring berths and accessibility to the 300 and 600 tonne lift at the Brisbane Marine Industry Park. This second premises has allowed Rogers and Lough to continue its focus on propeller fabrication, repair, shaft fabrication and repair and increase it’s portfolio to full marine refits and stern gear installation.
Alan also is a proud boat owner and his son’s Jamie and Justin are also keen boating enthusiasts. All boats of course are fully fitted with Rogers and Lough stern and propulsion gear. The Lough’s all understand the importance of getting the job done right the first time for your boating pleasure and can apply both their practical boating skills with their technical knowledge to ensure your satisfaction.
Together, the family aims to continue to grow the business while upholding the wonderful reputation set up by Lance some 50 years ago.
